Welcome to this edition of Prosperous Times, the monthly electronic update of the Prosperity Council of Waterloo Region.  Prosperous Times eNewsletter will bring you monthly updates on the initiatives of the Prosperity Council, and share news on some of the great economic developments happening in the Region. 

 For the second time in a row, the Waterloo Region - Canada’s Technology Triangle - registered the highest reading among Canadian metropolitan areas in the CIBC World Markets’ Metropolitan Economic Activity Index.    According to the report, key factors were strong population and employment growth with overall job gains of 4.6% over the past year - more than triple the national average.  A strong housing market was also another factor mentioned.

 Greater Kitchener Waterloo Chamber of Commerce Health Care Recruitment Council

On January 4, 2006, the Greater Kitchener Waterloo Chamber officially launched its Health Care Recruitment Council.  Strengthening health care in the region is one of the Prosperity Council’s strategic directions, as outlined in the “Good to Great Agenda”.  The City of Kitchener has already committed $20 thousand in 2006 to the Health Care Recruitment Council.  The City of Waterloo is considering a similar request.  For more information about the Council please contact Mary Sue Fitzpatrick at msfitz@greaterkwchamber.com

 Prosperity Council Welcomes Rob Horne

The Prosperity Council would like to welcome Rob Horne, the Region’s new Commissioner of Planning, Housing and Community Services.  The Prosperity Council partners have already met with Mr. Horne, and look forward to working with him and his staff on future initiatives throughout the region.
